Turnout Construction - Stage 5

Building a Turnout, Point or Switch

Taking careful note of the Track Template and the straight switch blade angle, glue and fix the section of the curved stock rail, which has not been glued down yet. Prepare two check rails by sliding three chairs on each. Ensure that the curved switch blade is not burred and is correctly formedbefore sliding the correct number of chairs on the curved switch rail (check the Track Template). It may be necessary to put a very slight curve on the switch rail before assembly. Position, fix and glue the curved switch rail gauging from the curved stock rail and fit the slide chairs (indicated in red) and trim the chairs indicated in green (on the Track Template these are indicated by the letter P and an arrow). Ensure all rails are soldered to the wire connection links.

Next trim the bolt heads on the stock rail in the checkrail position (indicated in green), to enable the checkrails to be positioned close enough to the stock rails. Use a checkrail gauge or the C&L gauge with the washer missing. Fix and glue the check rails, gauging from the vee and the wing rails. Your construction should now look like the diagram below.
